Why is Houston bridal makeup soooo expensive!?

Let me tell you a story. Once upon a time I had a bride try to trick me into booking her appointment for a general makeup application as opposed to "the bridal mark-up" package (her words). She explained that she was on a very tight budget and didn't want to have to pay more just because it was a wedding. I explained to her why the rate was different then she very reluctantly said she guess she understood.
I will explain to all of you what I explained her. The overall answer is that brides need much more attention than someone that is going out for the night.

1.) EMAILS- The back and forth sharing of photos and ideas. You are going to want to communicate with your artist quite a bit before the wedding day. Especially if you don't opt for the trial and if you have additional people that you need made up. While we love our jobs, this is still work on our part and we should be compensated.

2.)Supplies-Have you ever gone into a Sephora? If you purchase 3 things out of there, you have paid for a professional makeup application. Makeup is expensive and you guys pay is for the very top of the line! While we do get a small discount, we still need quite a few things just to have you gleaming and glowing on your wedding day.

3.) Time- The main difference between bridal makeup and going out makeup is that it takes longer. There is much more attention to detail for the bride. We put makeup on

the décolletage (neck & shoulders), we make sure that your makeup is ready for professional photos, long wearing and most of the time water resistant.

So back to my bride that wanted to book the general makeup appointment. Her wedding day came and things went off without a hitch! She loved her hair and her makeup and it was time for the veil application (another thing regular makeup appointments don't need). She then realized that there wasn't a comb that came with it, so we decided while she got dressed we would hand stitch one in for her minutes before her wedding.
There is no such thing as a "bridal mark-up". Simply put brides require more, so the rates are higher.
The LAST thing you want to do  on your wedding day is pay a low budget makeup artist. If the makeup artist even shows up, I guarantee you, you will hate your poctures.

To airbrush or not to airbrush? Will it work in Houston

The question I get asked all of the time by my clients is "should I get airbrush or should I go with traditional foundation?" Honestly, this isn't really a one foundation fits everyone type of answer. It depends on several factors that depend on you and your artist. So let's dive into it!
The benefits to airbrush foundation really seems like a no brainer when you look at it by itself. It typically lasts longer, it wears much lighter on the skin, it can be water resistant, and it looks more natural. With pros like that, why wouldn't anyone want it? Right?
Well the answer to that kind of depends on you and your skin actually. Like with all foundations, the better the skin the better the makeup will look. However with airbrush the more textured the skin, the more waxy the skin tends to look. Because of the application process with the airbrush gun, it sprays the makeup on the skin exactly where the skin is positioned at the time of application. So if you tend to have wrinkles or creases on the skin or under the eyes, it will emphesize them. If you are very expressive and have lines in your forehead, it will show them. For about 80% of my clients this almost never is an issue but if you have more mature skin, you may want to opt for traditional foundations.
When going to your bridal trial make sure you get your makeup artists professional opinion before you make your decision.
